Phyllis Phillips, Esq.

Phyllis Phillips, Esq.

A native of Marblehead, Massachusetts, Phyllis Phillips is a Vermont attorney and mediator. Her love of skiing led her to the University of Vermont, where she developed an appreciation for the state’s beautiful landscapes and unique personality. She attended law school in San Francisco, at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

New England roots run deep, so upon graduating law school Phyllis returned to Vermont, where she has resided ever since, in a 185-year-old house that requires constant attention. Golf has replaced skiing as her recreational passion; during their travel vacations, she and her husband, John, have lost golf balls all over the world. Phyllis is also passionate about the Boston Red Sox; reliving their 2004 World Series victory never gets old.

Phyllis’ work experience includes 10 years as the senior Administrative Law Judge for the Vermont Department of Labor’s Workers’ Compensation and Safety Division, a stint as co-owner of a Vermont-based workers’ compensation insurance company, and some years as a partner in a Burlington law firm. Currently she maintains her own mediation practice, helping to resolve disputes across a wide range of both legal, personal, and employment-related disputes.

Phyllis has two grown children, both of whom are now pursuing their own life journeys. She has been touched on a deeply personal level by substance use disorder and is passionate about reducing stigma and exploring more holistic ways to address this disease. Her devotion to Jenna’s Promise, its mission and vision, stems from this experience.
